I was originally planning on a daytime view of the hills and sky for
the outside of the pony, but in the end decided to paint a late-dusk view
of the ranch. I wanted to keep the detail down so the focus would be on
the inside of the pony. (That, plus I love that deep Ultramarine blue
that the sky turns right before night, and I thought it would make for
a beautiful pony.)
