Old Blue

November 24

Rick Jones came over today and helped me cut into the pony.  I used a circular saw blade with my Dremmel tool, until I burnt out the motor because the fiberglass was too hard.  I switched the blade to my regular drill, and finished the job easily. The shell is about 1/8 inch thick, and the cut is very clean.

The shape of the inside space is good-- gently curving walls. The surface is really rough, though, with big fiberglass strands and big gobs of grey goo... I don't know if I should try to grind it down, or put in an inner wall.

I think I'm going to fill the space with a few inches of Styrofoam peanuts, and then build the base on top of that.  It will keep the weight down, and will be easier than carving a base to fit the inside shape.
