Glass windscreens with colored interlayer

Mary Lucking - Lizard Acre Studio

The station art is based on the neighborhood's requested themes of local history and papel picado imagery. The glass windscreens feature twelve local historic sites, interspersed with images of the neighborhood's iconic magnolia trees. The buildings shown are stand-ins for the people who have lived in the neighborhood over many years, who have built and lived in these spaces. The bright colors of the banners are those traditionally used for Day of the Dead celebrations, when the lives of our forbears are honored. The cut-metal railing designs resemble papel picado, this time literally cut as the banners (though in steel rather than paper). The designs show a bouquet of magnolia blossoms. The color-blocked paving reflect the colors of the banners, providing a bright, cheerful backdrop for the station.
