Collaboration with Ross Miller. Set in two rest areas along the Massachusetts Turnpike, Leaf Tables provide seating for picnicking travellers. The picnic benches are made from mahogany and black tubular steel. Each set of benches mimics the form of the tree leaves that they sit under: maple leaves for the picnic tables shown in the upper picture, and linden leaves for the benches shown below. The maple picnic table measures 8 feet square, and provides a variety of seating options, as well are access for wheelchairs. The five linden benches are set in a large, semi-circular plaza. Measuring three to five feet in diameter, and set on single posts, each bench is set at a slightly different height, giving the impression of leaves floating on water. |

One of three maple leaf-shaped tables
located at the Lee Service Area on the Massachusetts Turnpike. The tables
are approximately eight feet across, can be used for a variety of seating
arrangements, and are wheelchair accessible.

This photo shows linden leaf-shaped benches
that were installed at the Natick Service Area. The benches vary in diameter
from three to five feet. They are mounted on single black posts at different
levels, making them useful as both benches and tables, as well as giving
the impression that the leaves are floating in the plaza.
